How to Join a Study

Procedure

  Important Note

We are currently experiencing temporary issues with the Google Play Store. Download and installation of study apps for Android devices will need to follow separate instructions that will be provided once tapping Android from your email invitation. Once the app in downloaded and installed, you may continue with the steps below for study registration.

Your study team will invite you to join the study via email. Please follow the below instructions to join the study using your mobile device:

  1. Tap the Android or Apple button from the email invitation to download your study app
  2. Install and open your study app
  3. Tap Join Study at the bottom of the screen
    • Activation Code: If you are required to give an activation code, you will be asked if you have one. You can find your activation code in your study invitation email (if you did not receive an activation code, please contact your study team). Tap Yes
    • No Activation Code: If you are not required to give an activation code, you will be asked study eligibility questions. Answer the eligibility questions
  4. The next screens will walk you through the study and inform you of what is required of your participation
  5. Following the information screens, you will be asked one or more questions to make sure you have read and understood the previous information
  6. Tap Next
  7. Tap AGREE at the bottom right of the screen if you consent to participate
    • Note that there may be additional disclaimers on this screen that you may need to tap on to consent
  8. Review and tap Agree again, if you consent
  9. Enter your first and last name
  10. Tap NEXT
  11. Sign your name by using your finger
  12. Tap NEXT
  13. Fill out the Registration screen with your information, including creating a password
  14. Tap NEXT
  15. Enter a four (4) digit passcode
  16. Enter the four (4) digit passcode again to confirm
  17. If your study allows any health trackers (i.e. FitBit), you can connect them by tapping Connect Devices. You can also choose to Skip
  18. A verification email will be sent to the email address associated with your study (check your spam folder if you have not received this). Go to your email inbox
  19. Tap the Verify Email link
  20. Go back to your study app
  21. Tap Continue
  22. Tap Start
  23. A window will pop up asking you if you would like to enable notifications. Tap ALLOW. This is very important for receiving study updates and completing activities

Additional Notes

  • The above steps may vary as each study is configured differently
  • Activation codes do not expire
  • Some studies may be conducted in multiple languages and/or multiple countries. If so, you will be asked before the consent education screens what your preferred language and/or country is
  • All system generated emails and notifications will be sent in your preferred language
  • Once you have selected your preferred language or country, you cannot change them afterwards. In order to change languages or country, you will have to contact your study team, withdraw, and join the study again using a different email address.
  • When selecting your language or country, they must match what your study is configured for
  • If you would like to add an additional account to your study app, you may do so by following the instructions in How to Add, Remove, and Switch Between Multiple Accounts
